This is a hefty goal. I know it is, but I don't care. The financial aspect of it scares the crap out of me, but I do have the rest of my life to do it. I have made a plan to hit all the continents in an efficient and more money-saving way. Here is my idea.
First of all, I live in America and I have visited family in Europe every other year of my life, so that is two continents down. All I have to do is figure out how to get the last five!
My dream is to study abroad in Australia. Unfortunately, I don't have enough money to fit that in. I am already going to Vienna my junior year as part of my major, and hopefully to London to cultivate my love of Shakespeare. I have to pay for it all, so I don't think that my small work-study income will be able to cover it... but I'm going to try! I will also be hitting up as many scholarship opportunities as I possibly can. If it all works out, I want to study abroad in Australia the summer after my sophomore year. The wildlife there fascinates me, and I am interested to see how many cultural differences there are there, even though they speak the same language.
After I get my career going, I want to go to Argentina. That will knock out South America. From there, I want to take a boat to Antarctica (during the warmest time of the year, of course...). I really want to see what it is like in such an extreme climate. I would only need to be there for a day, just to satisfy my curiosity (though I wouldn't mind staying longer).
In my forties, I want to visit Israel. I am a Christian and dream about visiting the sites mentioned in the bible. I desire to visit the wilderness, swim in the sea of Galilee and experience what life is like in Jerusalem. I also want to compare what I have learned from the Mary Russell series to what I see there, just 'cause. After I am done with Israel, I want to see Egypt. I find the culture in Egypt fascinating and want to learn more about their ancient religion. I also want to see what it is like in modern times; they don't talk about that much in school.
That is all 7! Naturally, I will want to visit more countries and experience more drastic cultures. I would also like to visit my Compassion child in Ghana, so this plan is just a basic tool that I want to use to base the framework of my traveling in my lifetime. Hopefully I will have the money to finance such a dream!
Where do you want to travel to? Have you traveled to any of the places that I mentioned? What was it like???
