I have so many memories of St. Patrick's Day. One of my favorites was when I was in kindergarten. That was the only year that my school ever went all out for St. Patrick's Day. We got to do a little hunt, where we followed the leprechaun to the pot of gold! Each spot held a clue to the next place. We spent a long time going around the school trying to find this pot of gold. I don't remember where we found it, but we were all given chocolate coins. It was adorable, and I have always wished I could do it again!
As far as St. Patrick's Day goes, I have not always been the smartest... Confession time... When I was little I thought that St. Patrick's Day was dedicated to my dad. Stupid, I know, but it wasn't a horrible guess! My dad's name is Patrick and his birthday happens to be in March. It wasn't that far of a stretch! Luckily, I was able to realize my mistake before I embarrassed myself in front of my classmates...
One of the things I always hated about St. Patrick's Day is the whole pinching tradition. There was this girl in my class that always wore a ton of green and went around pinching everyone who forgot to wear green that day. I hated that. I don't like the tradition; I think it's rude and annoying. So, despite how dressed up I am today, I promise you that I will not be pinching any one.
Two years ago, I went to Chicago for St. Patrick's Day with my German at the time. In Germany, they don't have St. Patrick's Day, so we decided to go all out! I bought the two of us socks that matched the festivities and the two of us and my mother went on a boat tour on the green river! It was extremely cold, but the food was delicious and it was pretty cool! This was one of my favorite St. Patrick's Day experiences.
One great thing about this season is the shamrock shake. I don't know if you've noticed, but that flavor is everywhere right now. To be honest, I find it pretty disgusting to get on its own, but I have a secret. If you get a vanilla shake and have them put in a dash of the green flavoring, it is delicious! The balance is much better!
Today I dressed up a bit. I wore my socks from two years ago, my new oxfords, and a green shirt. It was probably a bit over the top, but hey, it was fun! In contrast to high school, I didn't get any weird looks! Instead, I got a lot of compliments. :P Here's a picture of my socks!
