Today, I had quite the problem. My charger died. Some context: my laptop is my lifeline. I use it for everything. I use it for homework, blogging, applications, communication, and to watch netflix. I need my laptop. Unfortunately, it died and when I went to charge it, I found that the charger wasn't working. Great. So I looked on Amazon. Two day shipping? I quickly said no to Amazon (not normal for me). I needed my laptop today. I had a lot of work to get done before the day was through. What was I to do?!
I went to the nearest computer store to buy a new charger. The guy that helped me out was really friendly (and attractive...) and helped me pick out the right one (my laptop is a bit old, so I wasn't sure what kind of charger I needed). The price: $85.05. Okay, I am a college student who makes minimum wage (with a maximum of 10 hours a week); I cannot afford this stupid charger. Luckily, my mom said she would pay for it.
So I bought the charger, checked the plug in the car (I didn't want to do it in front of the cute guy because I didn't want him to think that I doubted him). Everything fit fine and all was well. I went back to my dorm and plugged the charger in. It worked! Thank, God. I got some work done, printed out some documents and then looked up to see the battery icon was low. My laptop wasn't charging anymore, despite the fact that everything was plugged in. Of course not... Turns out, the extension cord was messed up! So I had to go fix that (no big deal, just unplugged it and plugged it back in). At this point, the ordeal was beyond annoying. Plus, I was pretty angry that I bought a new charger for nothing.
Just to make sure, I plugged in the old charger. This time the light didn't even flicker, so I knew it was dead for sure. At least my $85 purchase wasn't for nothing (small blessings right?). Well, I look at the battery icon on my computer and what does it say? My battery needs to be replaced! That'll be more money down the drain!
Needless to say, I'm a bit irritated from the ordeal, but at least I got a nice (long!) charger out of it! I think what happened was that there was some sort of power surge that messed up my extension cord and my charger. I don't think that my laptop itself was affected though. The battery is just old. I guess it is time to buy a surge-protector!
How has your day been? Any weird, crazy stuff to share?
