Needless to say, it is an app that's worth your time.
Charity Miles offers a different incentive to exercise. Whether you walk, run, or bike (or variations of these), you will be donating money to a charity of your choice!
The best part: IT'S FREE!
To make things clear, this post isn't a way for me to make money by sucking you guys into a new app (I am not sponsored to write this). I genuinely love and use this app whenever I can.
Now that we have that cleared up... Let's learn more!!
Once you have downloaded the app, it is easy to use. Charity Miles offers two different ways to create a profile: by using your email or through Facebook. Once you are all set up, you can scroll through a list of charities and pick your favorite. The list includes the World Wildlife Fund, the Wounded Warrior Project, Habitat for Humanity, and many more. I personally choose Pencils of Promise whenever I go walking, because they help build schools worldwide (I think that education is one of the most important things to offer. Sometime, I will write a post about why).
Sure, 25 cents doesn't seem like much, but if you are going to go out and exercise, why not add a drop to the bucket? The more people that choose to use this app while exercising, the more of an impact it will have on those benefitting from the charities. For me, the decision was simple. I could easily turn on the app when walking to class or to the store and make a little bit of money for a charity.
Charity Miles keeps record of how many miles you go, how long it takes you, and how often you check in (all of this you can look at in your profile). This app also gives the option to team up with other people to earn money for charity together. You can do this by going to the sidebar on the app and clicking teams, then either searching or creating a team by typing it into the search bar.
My team name is TheShrew. Feel free to join and help me raise money!
The teams do not have to all select the same charity to work towards, it's simply a way to exercise with friends.
Since it began three years ago, Charity Miles has grown significantly. In such a short period of time, the app has managed to raise more than a million dollars for charity. So many people have benefitted from this app, whether they are using it to exercise or just found help through a charity. People have overcome illnesses and hardship through this app. To read about some of these amazing stories, check out Charity Miles's blog, Facebook, and twitter.
So why not become a part of such an amazing and simple movement towards bettering the world?
